Young jazz master multi-instrumentalist Aaron Johnson leads Swingin’ the Songbook, an exploration of Jazz Promoter and Producer Norman Granz’s legendary “Jazz at the Philharmonic” concerts which toured internationally between 1944 and 1957.
This swinging tip of the hat to Jazz’s greatest benefactor explores American Songbook material by composers including George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Johnny Mercer in an organized jam session format hearkening back to the original sessions led by Granz. Culling from the American Songbook as well as the Blues in this Chatham debut, Aaron’s ensemble features a cast of top young jazz talents.
