23Arts Summer Music Fest: Bernstein's Side

  • Mountain Top Library 6093 Main Street Tannersville, NY, 12485 United States (map)

“Jazz is the ultimate common denominator of the American musical style.” Leonard Bernstein

Leonard Bernstein’s compositions, perhaps the best known being his Broadway smash hit West Side Story, has inspired the likes of Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson, and countless other masters of jazz’s past. Young master swing musician and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Johnson leads a quartet in this premiere night of new arrangements in the spirit of composer, conductor and pianist Leonard Bernstein. Join us with the 23Arts Summer Music Festival for a musical exploration of the ways that jazz informed Bernstein’s compositional approach during his career, and the lasting impression his work had on the jazz artists who followed him.
