Jazz at the Culinary Institute of America: Porgy & Bess Suite

  • Post Road Brew House at Culinary Institute of America 1946 Campus Drive (Route 9) Hyde Park, NY 12538 US (map)

"Virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone" (New York Times) brothers Peter and Will Anderson present this re-conceptualized vocal suite of the music from Gershwin's operatic folk masterpiece.

George Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess first premiered in Broadway in 1935, breaking new ground in its musicality, casting and legacy of adaptations. Twin jazz virtuosos Peter and Will Anderson, joined by "the best straight-ahead jazz vocalist of her generation," Brianna Thomas, lead this vocal suite of songs from Gershwin's folkloric musical (and theatrical) masterpiece.

Known for their unique renditions of classic jazz songs and innovative original music, Peter and Will Anderson have performed with artists including the Jimmy Heath Big Band, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Village Vanguard Orchestra, Wycliffe Gordon, Cecile McLorin Salvant, and Paquito D'Rivera.
